Your Guide to Druid Hills Fall Events in October 2026

On the evening of Friday, October 9, would you rather be at a museum or on a lawn? This month in Druid Hills, both are on offer at once. Fernbank's After Dark: Nature's Nightmares runs from 7 to 11 p.m. that night. Half an hour after the museum opens its evening doors, Joe Gransden's Big Band with Maria Howell starts Jazz on the Lawn at Callanwolde, at 7:30 p.m.

The rest of the month follows the same pattern. Druid Hills' October events don't spread out evenly. Most of them land on two Friday nights and one Saturday, October 9, 23 and 24, and Callanwolde's grounds at 980 Briarcliff Road host three separate evenings. So planning the month is mostly about the order you do things in.

Sources for the table: the event calendars from Callanwolde, Fernbank, the Olmsted Linear Park Alliance and the Druid Hills Civic Association.

Read down the table and two things stand out. Fernbank holds most of the mornings and Callanwolde holds the evenings. The two compete directly on two Friday nights, October 9 and October 23.

October 9 Comes Down To One Choice, October 10 Gives You A Second Chance

You can't do both events on the 9th, and Fernbank makes the trade-off easier. After Dark is an adult evening with an autumn theme. The exhibition opening the next morning is the bigger museum event of the month. The Secret World of Elephants opens October 10 and runs through January 3, 2027. Fernbank is marking opening day with an Elephant Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The exhibition runs nearly three months. The Gransden and Howell concert happens once. If you only want one Friday-night ticket that weekend, the one-time event is the harder one to replace. The elephants will still be at 767 Clifton Road on a quiet weekday in December.

Pete Ayres closes the Callanwolde jazz series on October 23, also at 7:30 p.m. Fernbank has an event that night too, but for a different crowd. Teen Night: Hallow-Teen runs from 6 to 9 p.m. for ages 13 to 17. In a household with teenagers, the 23rd can work for everyone: drop the teens at Clifton Road, then head up Briarcliff to the lawn.

October 24 Runs Morning To Night

The 24th is the only day this month when the three anchors connect in order, from Clifton Road in the morning to North Decatur Road in the evening.

  1. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Fernbank. Dinosaur Trick-or-Treat brings costumes into the museum for the morning.
  2. 4 p.m., Emory Village field. The Druid Hills Fall Festival begins at 1605 N. Decatur Road with Trunk or Treat, games and music. The Druid Hills Civic Association and the Emory Village Alliance present it together.
  3. 5 p.m. The kids' costume parade marches through the village, and the costume contest follows at 5:30.
  4. 6:30 p.m. Mark Warren plays a keytar set.
  5. 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The double feature on the field is The Nightmare Before Christmas followed by Shaun of the Dead.

The three-hour break between Fernbank's last trick-or-treater and the festival kickoff is when lunch and a costume repair fit in. The festival organizers ask guests to bring blankets and lawn chairs, which is useful to know before you leave the house. The two films work well for a mixed crowd. The first suits younger children, and families can head home before the second.

Callanwolde's Third Evening Pays For The Park

Two of the three Callanwolde evenings are concerts. The third, on October 29, is the Olmsted Linear Park Alliance's Party for the Park on Ponce Fall Soirée, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. It ties the month's busiest lawn to the green strip along Ponce de Leon Avenue that Druid Hills residents pass every day.

That same alliance spends the weeks before the soirée working on the park itself. Its volunteer beautification workday is set for Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1788 Ponce de Leon Ave. NE. It came a few weeks after a September 26 bird walk with Birds Georgia and a woodland-restoration session in Deepdene, both advertised in the civic association's September newsletter. In the space of twelve days, you can help with the park on the 17th and attend the fundraiser on the 29th.

Where To Eat Between Events

Callanwolde's evenings now come with a newer dinner option a short drive up Briarcliff Road. Novo Cucina opened its second location in mid-May at Lumen Briarcliff, in a new freestanding building at the corner of Briarcliff and Clairmont roads. Its address is 3078 Briarcliff Road NE. The original Novo Cucina is in Dunwoody. Riccardo Ullio, who owns Novo Cucina along with Fritti and Sotto Sotto, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that construction and permitting delays, plus a late problem with the fire suppression system, pushed the opening back. The "Coming summer 2025" banner hung on the building for about a year. This fall is the first October the restaurant has been open.

On festival day, Emory Village has its own options. Summit Coffee serves coffee and pastries from its in-house bakery at 1565 North Decatur Road, in the space Baker Dude used to occupy. Wagaya, open in the village since 2017, is at 1579 N Decatur Rd NE.

Two Openings That Haven't Arrived Yet

Two businesses that were expected by now have not confirmed an opening as of early October.

Wagaya's grocery and tonkatsu café. Owner and chef Takashi Otsuka is expanding into a space two doors from the restaurant. The plan is a Japanese grocery plus a café seating 30 indoors, with outdoor seating to follow once things are running smoothly. The grocery is meant to carry cooking ingredients, frozen dumplings, Japanese sweets, Asian vegetables in smaller portions, and Japanese craft beer and sake. "These are things you can't get in this neighborhood without driving to Buford Highway," Otsuka told the Emory Village Alliance. The Alliance's feature gave a target of "by September," depending on inspections. Its homepage now says Otsuka hopes to open "soon."

San Francisco Coffee at Sage Hill. What Now Atlanta reported in April that San Francisco Coffee Roasting Company hoped to open a 2,700-square-foot shop at the Sage Hill shopping center during summer 2026, at 1799 Briarcliff Rd NE. The company's locations page currently lists Virginia-Highland, Candler Park, Midtown and Georgia Tech, and doesn't list Sage Hill yet.

If either opens before the end of the month, Briarcliff Road and North Decatur Road would each have a new place to stop before or after events.

After October

The next date on the village calendar comes after Halloween. The Emory Village Alliance's Light Up the Village is set for Tuesday, November 17, at 6 p.m. at Double Zero. According to the civic association's September newsletter, besides lighting up the village for the holidays, the evening is when attendees will hear the Alliance's plans for 2027. The Alliance has already been working on the streetscape. Its site notes 11 new street trees planted in the spring and a restored 15-foot plaza sculpture.

Evenings at Callanwolde and openings along Briarcliff often shape how a Druid Hills address feels day to day. If you're thinking about what your home in this part of Druid Hills may be worth this season, Erin Yabroudy and her team are glad to talk it through. Request a private market consultation.
